San Luis Obispo County covers about 100 miles of coastline in the middle of California, halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. SLO County, as it is referred to by locals, is considered the perfect climate, with temperate winters and mild summers. Much of the area is farmland, vineyards and open space. This part of California has more than its share of natural beauty, including the incredible beaches, sand dunes, estuaries, forests, grassy hills, lakes, state parks and a dozen golf courses. Fewer than 250,000 people live in SLO County, which is bordered by Monterey County to the north and Santa Barbara County to the south. Eastward, SLO County extends past the Carizzo Plains to the Kern County border.
